Abstract : Customary law strongly influences the fundamental principles of land order in Indonesia and is a crucial aspect of the nation and state's societal framework. Over time, there have been numerous complex issues in the development of national land. This study aims to understand and track the evolution of national land from a legal and sociological perspective following the 1998 reform in Indonesia. This study is a descriptive analytical normative research. The findings of this study indicate that there continue to be significant disparities between different regulations within the land sector, from a legal standpoint, following the 1998 reform. The protection of rights within these regulations is intertwined with a variety of government-created policies, programs, and additional regulations. On the other hand, from a sociological viewpoint, disputes over land are still widespread following the 1998 reform, and are a result of policies or choices made by government officials (both at the central and regional levels). These conflicts have numerous victims and have far-reaching effects that encompass social, economic, and political aspects.
