Abstract : This study aims to determine the improvement of student cognitive learning outcomes in the Environmental Sanitation Engineering course and lecturer teaching activities by applying the recitation method. The research method used was the Kemmis and Taggart model of classroom action research. The procedure includes planning, implementation of actions, observation, evaluation, and reflection, which are carried out in three cycles. The research subjects used were definitely a sampling of as many as 72 students of the building engineering education study program, including 37 students in class A and 35 students in class B. The recitation method, or the assignment that students must complete outside of class, is the subject of the research. Data was collected using student cognitive learning outcomes tests and observation sheets of lecturer-taught activities. The results showed that the average score of student learning outcomes and lecturer teaching activities increased consistently from cycle to cycle. The lecturer's research contribution is a time-consuming assignment that students can complete outside of class, such as at home, in the library, or in the lab. Discussions and requests for lecturer advice on how to improve the analysis of work results are always welcome. The implication is that this recitation method can be applied to other study programs to optimize learning.
