Abstract :
This study focused on Disaster Resilient Schools that aim to improve school preparedness and resilience to disasters. Through the application of the Strengthening 4R (Reduction, Readiness, Response, and Recovery), schools are expected to be able to minimize the impact of disasters. A comparative analysis of policies between Indonesia, especially at Gowa Regency and the Philippines aims to provide insight into the best way to strengthen school resilience to disasters. This study used mixed method research (MMR), a research methodology that combines various methods to answer research questions in an appropriate manner and involves the collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of qualitative and quantitative data. The results of the study indicated that disaster resilient schools in Gowa Regency, Indonesia have not yet fully implemented disaster resilient schools based on 4R (Reduction, Readiness, Response, and Recovery) while the Philippines shows a strong commitment to creating disaster resilient schools through national policies that integrate the 4R concept (Reduction, Readiness, Response, and Recovery). The difference in focus can be seen where Gowa Regency, Indonesia emphasizes more on infrastructure development and training, while the Philippines emphasizes a rapid and coordinated response system. To achieve the effective disaster resilient schools, strengthening of curriculum, infrastructure, training, cross-sector collaboration, and community involvement are required.
